To work in the marine industry today, you need to make yourself as versatile as possible. But what does that really mean?

"The most crucial aspect to being versatile is certification" says Dockwalk's careers expert, Amy Beavers. "While everyone has to back up what they have on paper with actual skill and competence once they get the job, if you don't have the paper, you won't even get the interview.

"RYA Yachtmaster Offshore/ Master of Yachts certification is fast becoming an important qualification for deck crew working within the superyacht industry" confirms Dockwalk's Matt Brown. "If you think you only need an STCW ticket to find a job as a deckhand, then think again. "

The end of the first course coincided with the Vassiliki Festival with the European Freestyle Pro Tour last weekend. Cracking conditions for two days in Vass let the boys put on an incredible show.

Trainee surf instructors are making waves of their own, with a new batch of freshly qualified Surf Instructors and Lifeguards just graduated from Flying Fish in Sydney. You are woken to the sound and smell of a board being waxed. Manly Beach is a short walk from the student house; the smell of salt air mixes with the sound of waves crashing …surf's up!
